The first issue of Understanding SharePoint Journal teaches how the CodePlex SPCurrentUsers solution is made, taking the reader through every step towards recreating SPCurrentUsers while explaining details about how each feature works.
USP Journal Volume 1 – Issue 1 deals with the following aspects of the solution:
- DelegateControl
- CustomAction, both CAML based and Assembly based
- Custom application pages in SharePoint, using code-behind files
- List deployment and column manipulation
- Solution setup using SharePoint event receviers
In addition, several sub-topics are explained, such as list querying in SharePoint using CAML, using WSPBuilder to speed up development time, and extending the User Information List to hold custom data.
There is also a free preview download available. Visit the USP Journal Issue 1 page to read more.

Is that a hard copy to order or soft?
All USP Journal issues are electronic versions, in PDF.

The USP journals available one-by-one or can we subscribe?
I don’t see anywhere to ’subscribe’ to anything, free or otherwise, can you point me?
Barry,
You can do both. Each issue costs $14.95, but bundles are available under Subscriptions page in the menu.
I do not like to force people to purchase every issue I publish, so the subscription model works by allowing you to pick only the issues that interest you.
