What is SharePoint services

SharePoint Services refers to the versions of SharePoint that are included with the Windows Server licence. Prior to 2003 this means SharePoint Team Services, or STS for short. After 2003 the product line changed name to Windows SharePoint Services, or WSS for short. The 2003 version of WSS is referred to as WSS2 while the 2007 version of WSS is referred to as WSS3.
