You can add items to the QuickLaunch menu from the Site Settings page, as well as when you create new lists and libraries.
Go to the Site Settings page and then to Quick Launch to edit the menu. You can add new headers and links, as well as change the order or any existing links in the menu.

I find this particularly useful when turning list into applications. You can bubble up the app title, cutom views, and create new item to the nav & make the app more ux friendly
