  2. Frank February 1, 2010 6:15 pm

Great idea and I’m looking forward to getting more information.

  3. Bharat February 1, 2010 6:21 pm

    This seems highly interesting.
I have couple of questions, if you can please answer them.
    1) How do you plan to interview interested person who wants to take this course?
    2) For an employed professional it may not be possible to take real time class or attend to lecture while at workplace, will it be possible to take this class or lecture at a later time and also post questions to presenter of the class or lecture?
    3) Self-paced learning course will have the same content as real time-bound course or lab?
    4) Will Sp 2007 and SP 2010 courses run simultenously?
    5) Can you please specify what will be covered in Beginners,Intermediate and in Advance courses?
Hope to hear soon from you.
    Thank you.

Waited 15 minutes, no movie appears, where else can I view it?

  5. furuknap February 1, 2010 6:30 pm

    Bharat,

    1) Interviews will be done either through IM, Skype/phone, or, if possible, by the experts if they are local to your area. Asynch interviews using email are also possible.

    2) If you don’t have the time to attend a real-time lecture, you can review the recorded lecture within a short time afterwards. As for all lectures and classes, online comments and questions will be available, and to the extent possible, the experts will answer your questions also after the lectures.

    3) No, the self-paced courses are simpler and less work-intensive. The topics may and will overlap, but there is not necessarily directly comparable courses.

    4) Yes, both 2007 and 2010 courses will run at the same time. The collaborative courses will be served on a needs basis, though, so we’l set them up when the students need them :-)

    5) I’ll detail the content of each of the courses later.

    Excellent!

This will add to the set of incredibly useful offerings you already have, I can’t wait!

  8. Michael R February 1, 2010 6:48 pm

Any word on pricing yet? Also, while answering that question – those of us who have purchased the Journal subscriptions, will we see some sort of small discount off the Training courses reflecting the fact we’d already paid for some of the material (the Journal Issues) included in the price?

    Thanks!

  9. furuknap February 1, 2010 6:52 pm

    Michael,

I’ll talk about the pricing and financials at a later time, I haven’t worked out all the details yet, and as I mentioned, I’m still negotiating with some of the faculty members about their contracts.

Out the gate, how many courses do you anticipate to be available the first month?

  11. furuknap February 1, 2010 7:05 pm

    Robert,

I’ll reveal more about the curriculum over the next weeks, but I anticipate at least the core currucilum for both 2007 and 2010 to be online from the get-go.

I am really excited about these courses…can’t wait for them to get started!

I’d like to see an example of creating a Sharepoint 2010 software development environment using Windows 2008, Enterprise edition
    that runs Hyper-V.
Using Hyper-V I’d then like to see instructions to set up a virtual server for Sharepoint 2010, a PDC server, and a SQL Server 2008.
Then an example creating an intranet domain using Active Directory containing the Sharepoint 2010, PDC server, and SQL Server, with recommendations for memory allocated for each virtual server. Then
set up Internet facing Sharepoint 2010 web sites: one with SSL and
    one without SSL.
I’d like this to be set up on my home network: a cable modem with a
wireless router. I have a static IP address from my ISP.
I’ve set up my Sharepoint 2007 development environment at home following Scott Hiller’s book
“Microsoft SharePoint: Building Office 2007 Solutions in C# 2005″
on a Dell T105 PowerEdge server with 4 GB memory (it would be nice to cram the Sharepoint 2010 development environment into 4 GB of memory, so I don’t have to buy more memory). (It would also be nice to boot this environment off my internal F: drive so I can easily retain my Sharepoint 2007 Windows Server 2003 environment on my C: drive). I use Remote Desktop Connection to log into the Sharepoint 2007 virtual server to develop Sharepoint apps. I have an MSDN subscription that provides me the server software.

After the software development environment is set up, I’d like to
see an example with instructions of accessing a database table
from the virtual SQL Server, such as the Northwind database, with information regarding read/write permissions to do this. I have problems accessing tables from SQL databases when the SQL database resides on a different machine from my Sharepoint server (but still in the same domain).
Create this example in both a webpart and standalone Sharepoint page.

Now if I could learn how to do all of this at the USPJAcademy for say $19 a month, [ I've been watching William Shatner in action as the Negotiator in PriceLine commercials:) ] I’d subscribe.

Sounds good, can’t wait to see the course descriptions.

  15. Vasil February 2, 2010 2:17 am

    Bjørn,

It’s a dream coming true! Yes, I agree. Are you sure it’s still a big secret though? :)

I’m very excited for this anyway!

  16. Martyn Cook February 2, 2010 2:56 am

    Hi Bjorn,
Sounds great. I have one request.
Usually when I get approached about SharePoint development projects the first thing that comes out of a clients mouth is ‘We want our SharePoint site to look like our website’

I have usually obliged by modifying Ted Pattison’s Litware Branding solution, but Ted doesn’t seem to be able or willing to respond to any questions regarding the modification or customisation of his solution, so my request is this.

Can you please include a course/tutorial/whatever on SharePoint Branding beyond modifying a theme, (Many of my sites have required fixed width etc.) and including the branding of application pages.

Seriously hopo you can oblige on this.

    Cheers
    MartyNZ

  17. Raghavendra February 2, 2010 4:24 am

this sounds awesome.. looking forward for course details and pricing

  18. Aaroh February 2, 2010 4:30 am

    Hi .b,

I have been waiting for this! truly incredible and impressive ..

I have a couple of few questions:

    1) The video shows that we do not need mega-GB laptops for developing and testing SharePoint solutions. Could you please elaborate on this particular topic? Do we need some VPN connection to remote server or something like this?

    2) Can participants/students suggest propose a topic to the faculty related to SharePoint? or the course materials has a fixed contents?

I guess price would be nominal and not expensive as Ted Pattison’s “Critical Path Training”.

I just loved the concept of forums and faculty blogs. I am too excited and looking forward for these courses ….

    Cheers.

  19. furuknap February 2, 2010 10:19 am

    Terry,

I’ll let you know the prices later, but if you’re expecting $19 per month, you need to look elsewhere.

  20. furuknap February 2, 2010 10:23 am

    Aaroh,

    Thanks for your comments,

    1) We’ll create multiple labs and give you access through RDP, yes. The labs will have various setups, some specific to a particular task and some more general.

    2) The collaborative courses are pretty much ‘locked’ to the extent that the course content is set, but how the courses are delivered is largely up to the facilitator. However, for self-paced courses and of course blog posts and articles, we’ll listen closely to the students to learn about what you need and want.

I’ll reveal more about prices later.

Hi! I am really excited for this! Hope you get the prices and the content for each level fixed as soon as possible!

  23. Bharat March 16, 2010 5:38 pm

    Hi,
    I have one question.
If one is not selected to the academy or is not becoming a member for any reason, is it still possible to get content of lectures or notes or videos etc. from academy’s site( of course by paying for the contnets)?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
    Bharat.

  24. furuknap March 17, 2010 6:39 pm

    Bharat,

We currently don’t have any plans to offer the content outside of an academy setting, but I think you have a great idea that we may want to pursue.

    Thanks for the suggestion,

    .b

  25. Yingwen Zhou March 26, 2010 9:12 pm

I heard you have discount price if people register early.

How can I get on your pilot group to get early registration discount?

I am definitely interested in this online training.

    Thanks,
